"Gospel Fusion" raises the rafters

25 October 2003

Voce Chamber Choir, London's exciting young chamber choir conducted by Suzi Digby, performed a thrilling mix of classical and modern music in its second concert last Saturday.

Despite the dark and wet weather, a great audience of more than a hundred people of all ages came to listen to Voce singing "Gospel Fusion" at St. Mary the Boltons in Chelsea.  The first half saw Voce singing the colourful "Hymn to St. Cecilia" by Benjamin Britten, followed by a range of beautiful folk songs from the British Isles.  In the second half, guest conductors Ken Burton and Paul Gladstone-Reid brought a rich and vibrant tone from the choir in the Gospel music, which went down so well that the audience rose to its feet demanding more!  After the concert, many stayed to celebrate the evening with a glass of wine in the transept of the church.

After a short break, Voce will be returning to sing in Trafalgar Square for Amnesty International on Saturday 6th December, before performing "Carols by Candlelight" in their own Christmas concert in Grosvenor Chapel on Saturday 13th December.
